Kanumas Island is a paying sponsor

The resort pays us to carry this listing and supplied the photographs above. That buys placement and imagery. It does not buy the facts.

Everything in the table below was checked by us on 14 March 2026 against the resort’s published rates, the transfer operator’s timetable, and a visit. We sell no rooms, take no commission, and the link out is tagged rel="sponsored".

What we found

The house reef is the reason to come, and it is genuinely good — a wall that drops off about forty metres from the west shore, swimmable straight from the beach without a boat. That is rarer in Baa than the marketing suggests. Two of the fourteen resorts in this atoll have a reef you can reach unaided, and this is one.

The trade is the beach. Kanumas is a small island and the southern shore erodes through the northeast monsoon, so between January and March the sand is narrow and sandbagged in two places. The resort does not photograph that side. If a wide beach matters more to you than a reef, Maadhoo Lagoon is twenty-five minutes further and has the opposite problem.

Hanifaru Bay is a thirty-minute dhoni ride and the resort runs two trips daily in season. Entry is controlled by the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve office and snorkellers only — no scuba, no free diving — which catches out divers who booked on the strength of the manta photographs.
