Raa has good reefs and a growing resort presence without yet feeling developed. Alifushi at the northern end has one of the country’s oldest boatbuilding yards, and dhonis are still made there.
Ifuru’s airport shortened everything. Resorts that used to mean a seaplane now mean a domestic flight and a boat, which is both cheaper and — unlike a seaplane — possible after dark.

Getting there
Ifuru puts Raa within a short domestic hop of Malé, and the transfer is usually shorter than the map suggests — a common misjudgement when planning a northern trip.
