Thinadhoo is the southern hub and has a fiercely independent history — it was the centre of the short-lived United Suvadive Republic in the late 1950s, and the memory is still present.
Guesthouse beds outnumber resort beds here several times over, which is the reverse of the national picture. It is one of the cheapest atolls to visit and one of the least visited.
