Fuvahmulah

Fuvahmulah is one island that is also an entire atoll — no lagoon, no surrounding reef ring, just a single landmass sitting alone in deep water. That geography is why the diving is what it is: the drop-off starts almost at the shore.
Tiger sharks are here year-round and reliably so, which almost nowhere else can claim. There are also two freshwater lakes, Bandaara Kilhi and Dhadimagi Kilhi, and Thoondu, a beach of smooth white pebbles rather than sand.

Fuvahmulah has its own airport — a domestic flight of about ninety minutes from Malé, and no boat at the other end, which is unusual here.
