Ribudhoo has made gold jewellery for generations — the tradition is said to descend from a royal jeweller exiled there, and the island still works metal. It is one of the more distinctive crafts in a country where most islands fish.
The airport at Kudahuvadhoo turned a remote atoll into a reachable one, and the resorts followed. The reefs on the western side are in good condition.
