Addu City
ސ · S · The far south
Addu is the southernmost atoll and the country’s second urban centre. Four islands — Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Feydhoo and Gan — are joined by a causeway you can drive or cycle end to end, which makes it the least boat-dependent place in the Maldives.
Gan was a Royal Air Force base until 1976 and the infrastructure it left behind is still in use. The British Loyalty wreck sits in the lagoon, and Addu has the country’s largest mangrove system.
